Only $100 per person for Wine and Dinner, Entertainment, Live and Silent Auction. Since organizing in 1986, Woodinville Rotary Club has contributed more than $1.2 million to our local and world community. This year help us support Literacy and other very worthwhile local and international service projects.

Celebrate Literacy Press Release

Woodinville Rotary Club will “celebrate literacy” at its 17th annual charity fund raising event October 6 at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.
The Rotary Wine’n Shine event will again feature a dinner and auction at which the nearly 400 attendees will appear in the costumes of their favorite figure in literature.
“With the support of our community service partners Banner Bank and Woodinville Wine Country, our club has given nearly $1.5 million back to the community over our 20 years in Woodinville,” President Rick Pisani noted. The club has 55 members.
Beneficiaries of past events have included Hopelink, Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center, Northshore Senior Services, Northshore Scholarship Foundation and 21 Acres, the emerging Sammamish Valley sustainable agricultural project.
Many of the auction items are wine related, co-chairs Greg Riggs and Chris Boland, said.
“Woodinville wineries participate in our annual project which this year features a limited number of Wines of Woodinville Collectors Barrels, an assemblage of handcrafted, premium wines produced by the 31 members of the association,” Pisani noted. Winery members also provide winemaker dinners for the auction.
Beneficiaries this year represent organizations with strong programs in the area of improving the ability to read among children and adults. These will include Reading with Rover, Kokanee elementary school summer reading camp, Listen and Talk program for deaf children, Hopelink’s English Language Learning program, dictionaries for all third graders in Woodinville area elementary schools, and the education resources center planned at 21 Acres.

He needs members willing to call on a handful of wineries in Woodinville to seek donations to the Wines of Woodinville Collectors Barrels to be included in the auction this year ... as well as scout out possible winemaker dinners and wine-related donations for the live and silent auctions.

Our Wine n' Shine venue for the second year is all dressed up and ready to go. Located in the upscale, thriving retail and business center of Bellevue, Meydenbauer Center recently underwent renovations to bring us a new first floor venue with all the bells and whistles. Club members and guests will be delighted with the sparkling and polished convention center.

Wine N Shine Ramping Up: Increasing the FUN Factor

Chris and Greg are setting the stage for our annual charity event on October 6th, by inviting club members to be table hosts and to establish a theme at their tables. For instance, Evan wants his table to study the history of Scotch Whiskey, while Greg's wife want's their table to be The Secret Garden. Lot's of possibilities for table themes as we consider our favorite topic of study or a favorite piece from literature.

Auctioneer Jay Fiske will be on stage at Meydenbauer for a first floor venue with live and silent auctions in the same room. Emcee and entertainmment to be determined. Something new: Draw Down Raffle a la Fiske to raise money with a new game.

A word on procurement for the live auction: unusual items you can't purchase on your own, like trips, experiences, events, etc.

Citizen of the Year will be the "Special Guest" of the evening as determined by the selection committee working with the Woodinville Weekly. Jon B. and Marty working with Julie Bosely from the WW on criterian for nominations this summer.

Literacy and Education for 07/08

A substantial portion this years fundraising activities will go to funding literacy and education. Dictionaries, reading camps, summer literacy programs, scholarships and various programs are in position to benefit from a successful charity event. Along with grants and gifts, our club could potentially reach the $100,000 mark for literacy and education funding this year.

Co-Chairs Chris Boland and Greg Riggs have appointed the Leadership Committees and a Time Line is in place. Stay tuned to the meeting schedule for an outline of important dates coming up.

Wine and Shine Kicks Off at Jarvis Social

Co-Chairs Chris Boland and Greg Riggs officially kicked off Wine and Shine Tuesday evening, June 5th at the Jarvis homestead on Hollywood Hill to much fanfare. Hosted by the Grace Provisional Rotary club, the event was punctuated by a grand welcoming by Mayor Jarvis who is always known to remind us, "Having Fun is Serious Business."

Members of the press were also present to cover the historic event.
